Hey everyone! Welcome to Picture Positive. My name is Hayden, and I am the creator and photographer for this mission! For now I'll be focusing on how it all started!
In this post, I'll be giving you a brief rundown on who we are, what the brand represents, and why we are here. Thank you for visiting and please feel free to reach out if you have a story you'd like to tell!
What is Picture Positive?
Picture Positive is a mission created to spread positivity and kindness through images and storytelling. The goal is to get as many people as we can who would like to share their stories of strength, growth, happiness, and/or overcoming challenges.
Why are we here?
Growing up, my parents fought negativity on a daily basis. My mother is a child psychologist, and my father was a police officer. Negativity was something they accepted into their lives, in order to show others how to get through it. I have countless stories of why this began my journey to start Picture Positive, but the important thing is that to this day they are still my heroes.
During high school I was lucky enough to be able to go on a trip to Ireland. I had gotten a camera for my birthday the year before, and wanted to learn more about photography. It was here that I realized this field was a lot more than just clicking a button. I quite literally saw the world through a different lens.. and it changed everything for me. I saw love, age, beauty, landscapes, passion, frustration... all these emotions and experiences by just "clicking a button". I didn't know how to pursue it, but knew I wanted to share that feeling with everyone.
Returning home I explored the career path of Journalism. I knew if I could write the stories I had heard, learned of, or seen, I could potentially share that experience with viewers.
I then attended the University of Ottawa for Digital Journalism. I went into this program with high hopes of making a change. I wanted to document people's stories and help them get the message out for help, or to inspire others. Unfortunately, I discovered that the media career path would not allow me to do this in the way I wanted. We learned tactics on interviewing victims and why some news outlets document tragedy just for higher view counts. It felt wrong, and I knew there was something I could do about it.
I left Ottawa U, and now currently attend Algonquin College for Photography. With the guidance and wisdom of my professors, I learned the essentials to begin working on Picture Positive.
Now, we are here! We are prepping to Launch and have made a space for anyone and everyone to share their stories without judgement or negativity. We hope to expand into many cities, and do our part to make people happy.
This blog will be dedicated to the stories behind our galleries and images. Their photo, their story.
